Where to start... oh, right here I guess.

This is a relatively new idea to me. I'm still not confident it's a great idea (or even a good one), but I am not going to let that stop me. As a short introduction, My name is Jerry. I'm a dad. I'm 34. I'm essentially a storm trooper at my current job (Complete with ident number and everything), but the dream is being able to just stay home all day with my kids, making things I love (Sometimes with them, sometimes with them upstairs. If you're a parent, you'll know what I mean). But alas, this is still a capitalistic world and its very difficult to support a family like that. So... this is where we are.

I've always enjoyed making things. Technically I was cosplaying before I even know what it was. I have a great Robin costume from 15 years ago that I made from second clothing, a pair of tights, and lots of craft velvet. (Just found the picture! Posted below!! Crazy excited now. haha) Recently, as we became more exposed to the world of cosplay, its consumed us. All of us. The girls love it, my wife loves it, and I'm probably the one who enjoys it most of all. I won't get into how we got started, or how you get started, thats a topic all its own for a later post. My background made this transition almost inevitable. With a father who practically has the talent to create anything you can dream up. Seeing this growing up, and coming to him anytime a new idea came to mind. "Hey dad, you think we can make me look like an actual klingon, original character, Star Trek: TNG style?"  The only obvious answer is "Yes".  With a list of hobbies ranging from wood working, Photography and editing (See above photo, taken and edited by him to our obvious tastes! ) furniture building, air brushing, music, and an attitude of "Hmmm yep, we can definitely figure that out" theres no doubt some of that gets passed on. I don't think theres a gene that makes you creative, now I think its more likely theres a gene there that gives you the incessant need to WANT to create something. So here we are...

My general theme for this venture is "Make Something". I'm hoping that this site actually encourages people to do that. Youtube videos, costumes, podcasts, painting, sculpting... Whatever it is. Stop thinking about. Stop wondering if it will be good enough. Stop getting distracted by facebook. Just make the thing you want to make.  Since we opened a store here as well, its clear that we hope to make a little money from this desire to create as well. But for anyone that already enjoys these things, cosplay and different types of art are just expensive in general. So making things to sell to make money to make other things you're willing to sell is like the vicious circle someone like me would thrive on getting swept up in. Also, we want to buy a large RV. Yep. A Motorhome.  Can hardly romanticize that one. But if anyone rode with us last year on the annual trek know as "ATLANTI-CONVOY", driving from St.Johns to Corner Brook for their local scifi convention. (Check them out here... great people. great fun. http://atlanti-con.com ) . Our joined us for our family breakfast that weekend... 25-30 people cramming in and out of a little space ramming pieces of bacon in your mouth. Soaking toutons in molasses. Or even smacking pieces of ham off lovely faces, I'd hope you'd agree that us having this RV is good for everyone. Well, most everyone...

Also, on the good karma part of our personality, we're hoping to feature other local artists, cosplayers, and whatever other creative things you're into. Do a blog post for us, get some of your work on the site for a bit, feature a friend now and then... We're still working through this but if you have a suggestion. We'd love to help you out too. So, with that said..... Make Stuff! And Help People! Those two things will make you happy. Or at least happier! And that's a good start...
